What is lucid dreaming?

Lucid dreaming is a state of awareness where you’re conscious that you’re dreaming and are able to control the outcome of that dream. This allows you to experience things in a more vivid and imaginative way, and to explore your subconscious and gain insight into your thoughts and desires. It’s more freeing than normal dreaming and more controlled than wet dreaming, and it’s rare that you can predict when it happens.

Lucid dreaming: the benefits

Lucid dreaming can be a fun and exciting way to experience your dreams in a new and empowering way. Some of the benefits to lucid dreaming include:

Empowerment

By being able to control the outcome of your dream, you can experience a sense of empowerment and control over your subconscious thoughts and desires.

Exploration

Lucid dreaming can provide a window into your subconscious, allowing you to explore your thoughts, desires, and experiences in a new and imaginative way. You might find that you wake up and have gained clarity about something!

Problem-Solving

Because you’re looking through a window into your subconscious, lucid dreaming can be used as a tool for problem-solving and finding creative solutions to challenges in your waking life. There’s no better feeling than waking up in the morning with the answer to a dilemma you’ve been fretting about!

Fun

Lucid dreaming can be a fun and exciting way to experience your dreams in a new and imaginative way. Quite frankly, it’s just cool!

Let's look at the how-to's

Lucid dreaming can be a powerful tool for exploring your sexual desires in a safe and controlled environment. If you're interested in using lucid dreaming to explore your sexual desires, here are some tips to help you have a positive experience and wake up feeling fresher and more in tune with yourself!

Set intentions

Before going to sleep, set a clear intention to have a lucid dream that involves exploring your sexuality. This is a sure-fire way to dream with a purpose, and whilst it can’t guarantee lucid dreaming, it makes it more likely.

Practice visualisation

Visualise yourself in a dream and focus on the fact that you’re dreaming. Becoming aware that you’re dreaming whilst falling asleep is crucial. Use this time to set the scene for a sexual dream (e.g. in a bedroom, outdoors, at a sex party etc…) and focus on the desired outcome. What do you want to gain? Do you have a specific person in mind?

Focus on the experience

Once you are in the dream, focus on the sensations and emotions that arise. Embrace the experience and let it unfold naturally. If it turns into a wet dream, don’t worry! This is all part of the fun.

Be mindful of boundaries

Lucid dreaming is a safe and controlled environment, so it's important to set boundaries and only engage in sexual activities that you are comfortable with. Similarly, don’t set yourself up for something you’re not ready to experience. Only partake in activity (dreaming and awake!) that you feel is right for you

Keep a dream journal

A dream journal is a great way to make you feel more aware of your subconscious thoughts and desires, which can help you have more fulfilling sexual experiences in your dreams. It’s also fun to look back on! What you dream about can be meaningful or mean nothing, so it will make a good read to digest at a later date.

It's important to remember that lucid dreaming is not a substitute for real-life sexual experiences and should not be used as a means of avoiding or suppressing IRL sexual desires. Instead, it can be used as a fun tool for exploration, leading to more exciting and fulfilling sexual experiences in waking moments, as well as sleeping.
